This project aims to reuse existing buildings through sustainable design strategies, endowing them with new community functions and values. The project focuses on an idle building at 19-21 Thames Street in Kingston, London The building was a retail and office space. Currently, the interior has been emptied, leaving only the exterior, which includes the ground floor, basement and two floors of space. There is also a parking lot at the back. It enjoys a prime location, connecting Clarence Street, Benthor Center and Kingston Riverbank, and has significant community potential.
Students are required to transform the building into a multi-functional community space through a "collage" design approach, integrating existing structures and eco-friendly materials, including cafes, workshops, event venues, to respond to the local demand for independent businesses, artistic creations, and community services, while exploring sustainable solutions for building reuse. The project emphasizes respect for historical buildings and innovative renovations, aiming to provide practical examples for urban renewal.
